THE LIVING COLLECTION
DC’s Indoor FlatScape
Part furniture, part living display, part science station, and part place to disappear into for a while. Explore the plants, field notes, and care guides behind a collection that keeps growing.

BOTANICAL ARCHIVE
The Living Collection
Every plant has its own way of using light, water, and space. Explore the species growing in DC’s Indoor FlatScape, from tropical foliage and succulents to orchids and carnivorous plants. Each dossier brings together plant care, propagation, field photographs, and observations from the collection as it grows.

DESIGN & FABRICATION
The FlatScape Build
What began as a way to organize a plant collection became a seventy-two-inch modular gallery, built in the JCWE shop and brought into the room as a living installation.
Three removable sections create a changing botanical skyline. Integrated lighting, concealed wiring, and purpose-built growing spaces allow the furniture to support the plants without taking over the room.
The structure is finished. The FlatScape is not. Plants are still adapting, climbing, dividing, rooting, and occasionally teaching me that the original plan was wrong.
THE FIELD JOURNAL
Field Notes
The FlatScape keeps changing. Follow the repotting, propagation, lighting observations, plant recoveries, experiments, and everyday discoveries that shape the collection. Some things work. Some things teach us what to try next.
DC’s Indoor FlatScape
DC’s Indoor FlatScape brings woodworking, plant science, custom root zones, integrated lighting, and a lifelong love of plants into one living installation built to grow, change, and teach.
THE REFERENCE LIBRARY
Plant Care Guides
Practical field sheets for the plants growing in DC’s Indoor FlatScape. Explore light, water, root-zone conditions, propagation, and the details that make each species different. These guides are built to be useful, revisited, and improved as the collection teaches us more.

Monstera Care Guide
Monstera deliciosa
Light, watering, root-zone structure, climbing support, and propagation for one of the FlatScape’s most recognizable tropical plants.
Guide in preparation

Cape Sundew Care Guide
Drosera capensis
A practical reference for water quality, nutrient-poor substrates, light, feeding biology, and propagation.
Guide in preparation

Venus Flytrap Care Guide
Dionaea muscipula
Understanding light, water, substrate, dormancy, and the specialized care that makes this carnivorous plant different.

FROM EARTH TO ORBIT
The Living System Continues
DC’s Indoor FlatScape exists here on Earth, but the instinct behind it reaches much farther.
The same curiosity that turns a room into a living collection becomes something larger aboard SpacePyxis. Plants are studied, preserved, propagated, grown for food, and woven into the daily life of the station. What begins as observation on Earth becomes an entire living system in orbit.

MEANWHILE… BACK ON EARTH
DC’s Indoor FlatScape
A seventy-two-inch living installation surrounded by plants, light, root-zone experiments, propagation, observation, and the ordinary routines that turn plant care into something personal.
It is where DC studies individual species, makes mistakes, changes course, and keeps learning from the collection as it grows.

MEANWHILE… ABOVE EARTH
The BioReserve
Aboard SpacePyxis, that same relationship with living systems expands into the BioReserve, where botanical research, food production, seed preservation, beneficial organisms, habitat, and long-term stewardship operate together.
The scale changes. The curiosity does not.
THE COLLECTION KEEPS GROWING
This Is Only the Beginning
The furniture may be finished, but the FlatScape never really will be. Leaves will open. Roots will divide. Cuttings will become plants. Experiments will work, fail, and teach us something worth keeping.
The Living Collection will continue growing with new species dossiers, field notes, care guides, photographs, propagation records, and whatever the plants decide to teach next.
Knowledge grows. We just give it direction.
